Mark Verheiden

Together with Akiva Goldsman, the ex-Battlestar Galactic writer and co-executive producer, Mark Verheiden, has been brought in to co-write the Dark Tower TV series. Along with his writing duties, Verheiden will also take the helm as executive producer on the TV series (two seasons expected). Ron Howard will be directing the first movie and TV season, yet has still to confirm if he will also direct the second and third movies.

The move to bring in Verheiden seems promising especially as Battlestar Galactica was a dark, gritty and very real experience…even if the last season labored on somewhat. As well as being a script writer and producer, Verheiden has written a number of stories for DC Comics, which includes works such as The American, Aliens and Superman.

All this lends great depth to Verheiden, which I hope will transfer well to the Dark Tower universe.

Everything is now starting to fall into place for the DT movies and it’s great to finally see things moving along more quickly.

Jeff Bridges for Cort. Just gonna throw that out there!

Michael Weber April 16, 2011 at 12:08 pm

This is excellent news, as Battlestar Gallactica was amazing.

And Kevin Spacey as the Man In Black. Seriously. Watch Seven. And I just bought Battlestar season 1 because of the news. Can’t explain my excitement right now.

I am not familiar with Mark Verheiden’s work. I just hope he is able to pull it off and do a fantastic job.

I’d recommend Battlestar Galactica to anyone who hasn’t seen it and wants to get a feel for this man’s abilities. I know several people that are very far from being sci-fi fans who became fully obsessed with this series because of its dark realism, and well written characters.

Towerjunkie311.. YOU ARE SPOT ON!! Kevin Spacey would be perfect!

Aimee April 21, 2011 at 7:30 pm

Thanks, I will start watching it tonight.

I agree I think Kevin Spacey wold be great for the man in black. He was very creepy in Seven.

Pokes23 April 23, 2011 at 2:23 am

Kevin Spacey? Love the idea! Seven was awesome but go back and check out his performance as Lex Luthor in Superman Returns. He was able to flip his mood and attitude like a switch in a way that was very darkman-esque in that movie. Good call!

good lord this scares me. I’m not doubting the talent involved, I just dont want it to wind up as another golden compass. Great story, didnt make money, got canned. I wish they could just film it all at once.

Dogwater April 23, 2011 at 3:13 am

oh, and edward furlong as eddie dean. yeah, i’m being serious.

Lanthros May 4, 2011 at 12:19 pm

Everything Ive heard so far about this project has been great untill I read this. Battlestar Galactica’s “reimagining” was completely and utterly atrocious. If his writing messes this up he will have an enemy for life and I would boycott anything and everything he ever touches again. I dont pretend this would harm his carrer in the least but I hope he would take it to heart and stop deconstructing genius for the sake of a few extra ignorant viewers and bucks.

I just have a question since the subject of who would play who came up. I think that the hardest character to cast will be Odeta Holmes/Detta Walker/Susannah Dean. So to my question. Who do you think would be cut out to play said character?

Why bother with the miniseries at all? Surely the movie is enough!

Jessi February 7, 2012 at 2:48 pm

Just as long as they dont screw it up like whoever did Bag of Bones! I watched it on t.v. after reading the book and they left out so many key elements and changed things as well I was very disappointed after watching Bag of Bones that it scares me to think what could happen with such an amazing series as The Dark Tower. What ever you do dont murder it like Bag of Bones PLEASE

John De Lancey as The Man in Black.
Or perhaps he’d make a better Pennywise…hmm.
